I'm due with my first baby on the 24th, I want to be a stay at home mom, but I also want to help out my husband with the finances. I've been looking into Avon and think it would be a great way to earn extra income, but I'm scared I'll be in over my head with a newborn and my own business. Has anyone else done this? Did it work? I would love any answers and/or details on Avon.

It is a small investment to try. Only $10 in a face to face appointment. I am also in the online appt pilot program and can sign up new reps online for $20. You will receive everything you need to get started with Avon, including:

o 10 brochures for your current campaign

o 10 brochures for your next campaign

o One box of product Samples

o 1 order book

o Getting Started Booklet

o Open the door to your Future

o Jump Start your Business

o Avon Dreams made real

o 12 Recommendation cards

o 5 collection envelopes

o 1 credit card voucher

o Rich & Famous of Avon 3

o Avon Tote Bag

o And more…………..

The only thing you need to sell is the brochures. The more you buy the less they cost. I wouldnt get fancy and buy samples and attach them to the books. I never even recommend anyone buying samples at all. They rarely have gotten me a sale.

Ask your friends and family if they would buy Avon. That's a start. Go about your everyday life and look at all the different people you come into contact with. Anyone of them could be a potential customer. I have gotten new customers in many different ways. I do my daily errands and appointments but I am always thinking Avon. Here are a few true stories:

I was having lunch at a diner and had on my Avon pin and a few brochures on the table. One of the waitresses walked by and said do you sell Avon? I said yes and gave her a catalog and she ordered something on the spot and called a little later to add to her order.

I had to go to my daughters school because she lost her lock for her locker. I had gone to the gym in an Avon tshirt (because ya never know ) and the lady at the front desk asked do you sell Avon? I grabbed a few brochures out of the car and gave her some. A teacher there used to sell Avon but she didnt work there anymore. She said a bunch of us love avon but didnt know anyone who sold. I got a helper and a bunch of new customers.

I left a few brochures in a supermarket and had a call for an order a few minutes after I walked in the door.

Avon is a job that you can schedule around your family's life. You need to organize yourself and think of it as a business. If people don't know you sell they can't buy. Ask family and friends to get you customers from their jobs or family and friends. Give them a little discount on their order or a small gift to thank them.

You need to know that if you really want to make money you can't be spending your profit on your own products. Start out slowly and build your business in time.

I have more info and faq's on my profile. Feel free to contact me with any questions you might have.

I sold avon for about 8 months. I, too, was having a baby and wanted a stay at home job but honestly it was a lot of work with no reward in my experience. You have to pay for your own brochures, samples, demo's and when you place your order it's very annoying and an inconvenience to your buyers when an item is sold out or they are no longer going to get any more in which I found to happen quite a bit.

I would buy about 200 brochures at a time and spiff them up (printed order forms to mail to make it easier, stapled fragrance samples, offered free gifts, etc. etc) and I would take them all around town and in the whole 8 months I sold Avon the only people who bought from me was my mom(a lot) my aunt (a couple times), my sister(very little) and a friend (once). When tax time came around I figured all my invoices and after everything I sold (and everything I bought) I ended up at the end of the year making $40. Honestly it's not worth the effort in my opinion. I would spend about 4 hours just preparing my brochures and even more distributing them and never got a phone call.

Maybe I just wasn't outgoing enough or maybe it was because I had a brand new baby and a part time job but if anything you'll waste any money you made buying stuff for yourself (even though you said you wouldn't).

It was a good experience. I always wondered if that would be a good road for me to go down and you never know until you try. It didn't work out for me and now I'm actually considering selling Jewelery through Cookie Lee. I have a friend that does that and says she makes a good amount of money with them but they are basically a 'party' company. So I don't know about that either.

You may try it and see if you like it. Some people do better than others with Avon and it's only $10 to sign up so it's not like you're losing a huge chunk of money. Good Luck and Congratulations on the baby!

I did try avon. It works for some people, but not for people who have little kids (like me!) unless you have someone who will watch them while you are out delivering brochures or orders. It's a lot of running around. I didn't like keeping track of who ordered what, and then you had to deliver it to them. and you only make money on the orders.. there is nothing that holds you over to the next month.

So I dropped that after 6 months and started the business i'm with now. I can work from home and the internet and still take care of my 2 kids under age 2!! i'm making money at it.. but it does have a larger start up cost. You do make all your money back the first month however. please check out my website if you are interested in hearing more.. or e-mail me!

You can always try Avon, it might work for you and you might know the right people.. so you could make money right away.. I always say it's better to try and fail than not try at all.

Well the problem with businesses like Avon is you have to keep on selling which means constantly going out and finding customers.

But you wish to create an income from home, and a home based business is ideal. The biggest advantages are working hours that you can set to suit yourself, the opportunity to leverage time through the efforts of others, and significant tax advantages. So what I would do is look for one where you can create a proper residual income

There are hundreds of possible businesses, but a business requires some capital to start up so I would recommend looking for one that requires less than $500 to start, but remember it is your business and it will only be successful if you are prepared to put some amount of continuous effort into it. It will take some time to build and get an income flowing, so I would study all opportunities very closely and see if your choice has any bonus schemes which can act as cash flow as the main income stream grows.

With most businesses it will take 2-4 weeks before the first income may be received, but that is normal, in fact most home based jobs will only pay monthly. But with a business the income should increase quickly as the weeks progress, in fact it is possible to be earning a significant extra income within 6 months and be financially free in 2-4 years.

Some 9 years ago I got involved with a company in the second largest industry in the world – Telecommunications. What impressed me with this company was the attitude of the owners, they were already in a position where they could have retired, but they decided that they had a company that could grow and help very many people throughout the world to realise their financial dreams.

This company now operates in 19 countries on 3 continents and expects to be opening up another 50 countries over the next few years. They have been featured in many publications like USA Today, Success from Home Magazine (twice), Fortune, and Inc 500 rated then the 22nd fastest growing company in the USA after their first 5 years, not only that but the 2nd most profitable.

Recently the multi-billionaire Donald Trump endorsed the opportunity, calling it probably the best available in the world today.

The services the company offers are local and long distance calling, Internet, Digital, Voip with video phones, Satellite TV and cell phone services with all the major cell phone providers. Now everybody knows plenty of other people who use these services in their homes every day, and this opportunity allows you to save people money on these services, but at the same time it allows you to earn a percentage of the monthly billing of all the people, who are saving money on the services you recommended, now you have created a residual based income, you get paid every month for as long as the customer continues to use the service. This can be a very profitable business as the industry turns over approximately one Trillion dollars annually.

Now just a little bit of information about myself, I am nearly 62 and spent most of my working life in traditional manufacturing companies at Director level, so I know a bit about business. What I have discovered in the last few years, I wish I had known about when I left college. It has taken me over 30 years to discover a business that I can honestly recommend to anybody, although they will have to have drive and determination to succeed.

If you would like any more information feel free to email me.

This is similiar to Avon but with a special twist. The problem with Avon is getting customers. You are expected to sell to friends and family and at the "parties", but eventually that well runs dry. The customers run out and advertising to get more customers gets expensive. With this new program, you are able to receive live infomercial calls from people who want to buy your product. The concept is so unique that the program and technology used is patent pending. Take a look and see what you think:

I love Avon and have used it for years. The thing with Avon is if you get enough of a loyal customer base you will make a fair amount of money and the investment is only $10.00. But there are catalogues and samples to buy if you want to build the business. You will get out of it what you put into it.
