i placed an ad on hoobly saying that i wanted to adopt an african grey parrot for around 300 bucks, and no more than 500 bucks. i said that i was only 16 but am responsible and have experience with birds and then posted the ad.
the next day, i get an e-mail from someone saying they have grey babies that they are wanting to sell and to e-mail them back if still looking and that they will send pictures. there were some spelling errors if that matters? i said i was extremely interested, so she e-mailed me back with like, 12 photos, a couple of which i thought looked to good to be taken from home. she said they would only be $95 for a re-homing fee (i know they go usually for around 1,500 bucks) and that the reason she's selling her babies is because her grandson recently passed and she won't be able to take care of them. i e-mailed her back saying i'm sorry for her loss and then asked her which bird is the friendliest and that's the one i want and she e-mailed me back saying this

SHE IS ALSO HAND AND CAN DANCE WITH YOU CUZ SHE LOVES ROCK MUSICS AND ALSO LOVE TO BE TAKING FOR A WALK.SHE IS FRIENDLY AND CAN BE HELD CLOSE TO YOU Dear we want you to note that we are right now in Louisiana and we can only transport the baby over to you from here and all you be paying for her will be $95 and you will be paying the money to the transportation agency that will be transporting the baby over to your home and the money for her document update. When you provide us with these details we are going to take the baby to the transportation agency and get her registered for the flight that will be coming to your location today ,and when we are done with the registration the agency is going to contact you regarding how you are going to pay for her document update fee so that she can be transported to your location and home.
Once again Thanks for the mail and the interest in our baby Maria we are so happy that you have decided to take this our baby so as regards to their transportation we are going to be needing your full delivery details so that we will be able to register the Grey baby at the agency for transportation and delivery to your home so as for the details we will be needing the following information from you
Your full names........?
state...............?
city................?
postal code.......?
phone number..............?
home address.............?
nearest airport to your location............?
All you will have to pay for Maria"s transportation will be $95 and you will be paying the money to the transportation agency that will be transporting her over to your location and home. so do get back to us with the information as soon as possible so that we will be able to proceed with the change of ownership document from our names to yours and also to book her flight to your location.
Thanks and waiting to read from you soonest
Best regards from Gina and family

what do you guys think? scam or honest lady? it's very weird that she only wants $95 for one and that she is shipping them to me? but then again, she didn't ask for any really personal info that i could tell. i don't know.

It is a complete and total scam, and a very well publicized one.

There are no real parrots. She's using stock photos she got from somewhere. After you send her the $95, either you'll never hear from her again, or she'll contact you and give you some lame explanation about why she now needs another $100 or $250 before she can send you the birds ... and this will continue on and on until you finally get suspicious and stop sending her money.

You will never get the bird. It doesn't exist.

(Why on earth would anyone EVER buy a pet they'd never seen in person? That just doesn't make sense to me.)

It's the infamous Cameroon pet scam. There is no parrot, they are not in Louisiana and there is no transportation agency. There is a scammer in an internet cafe in Cameroon, West Africa who stole pictures of a bird off a legitimate breeder's site and is trying to con you out of $95

Report this ASAP to Craiglist or whatever site it was posted on to get it removed before some sucker falls for it

You're not going to find an African Gray parrot for $300. Expect to pay well over $1,000.

Don't buy animals over the Internet or through the mail. Buy from a reputable aviary specialist in your community.
