Question:
Legit home business?

I have been doing a lot of research on home based businesses and working at home. I would like to hear from people that actually invested money into one of these companies and made a good living. At first I was not willing to put money into one of these to get started, but now I am starting to realize that there needs to be money invested to get started. I am just skeptical and unsure of what companies are really a scam and which ones are not.

Honestly? How is such a business truly YOUR business when it depends on some other company?

When company goes out of business, what happens to so called your business? And they do go out of business more than you would want to believe. Your retirement and your residual income simply disappears over night.

Or do you know that unless you really know the proper formulation of your distributors contract, these companies can change their Compensation Plan practically without any warning and cut your income in half or less. Or they simply change qualification requirements. And they do.

Yes, you are absolutely correct to state that you need to invest money in the business. Invest it in your very own instead. A business that is totally independent from any other company or corporation where you write your own cheque, a business that is based on your interests, hobbies, talents, experience, likes and passion.

There is no business like your business and believe me it costs a fraction of the amount that you would pay for your typical brick and mortar, and only slightly more than joining any of these companies. Income wise the very worst are those that are so called free to join.

What I can share with you is from experience. I have tried and failed at three home businesses over the last five years. The most recent was a networking type business. Last summer, I came across an ad for a free home business so I decided to try it. It's been almost 9 months since I joined and I don't have any negative feelings like I did with the other three, there's been no pressures or timelines, qualifying to get your money, no uplines--NADA--NOTHING. Each week the founder sends out emails just to update the members on what's happening and changing in the business. She offers conference calls every other week (which is also posted online to listen to if you miss the call live). This is an online business called My Power Mall a division of Together We Can Change the World. Ginny Dye, the founder, is adament that every member follows her mission and that everything that is being done is legal and legitimate. My Power Mall is an online shopping mall where I have been able to save tons of time and money getting those things that I need on a daily basis. Rebates are earned on each purchase the members make. This business has worked for me and my family and I have been very happy with it. It's the first legitimate, honest business with no hassles that I've come across to this date. By the way, I haven't spent any money other than what I've purchased for myself. Ginny has listed on the site many different ways to advertise the business without spending a penny. Many of the suggestions I am using now and my business has grown. If this is something you might be interested in checking out, you can either email me or look at the video by going to www.mypowermallfreedom.com. I wish you lots of luck with your search in finding a legit home business that will work for you. Hope you have a terrific weekend!

As a full time worker (nurse), and a successful small home-business owner (Slumber Parties - 'Ladies Only' home parties) - I can only tell you only of my personal experience... which is that it DOES take a sizeable initial investment of time and money to start a home business successfully, but the good news is: you get "out" what you put "in". After 4 years in business, my home parties bring in more income than my professional career. There are also tax benefits to owning and operating a small home business.

As far as finding a "legit" company, just do your research - and it sounds like you have! The company should have a history that they are willing to share, a proven track-record of success, training and support as well as a compensation and incentive plan. There are also "associations" that certify home-based businesses - Direct Selling Assosciation is a great one, and for my particular industry there is CAHPA - Certified Adult Home Party Association.

Your best bet would be to find someone that you can talk to on a personal level that is with the company you are interested in and interview them about their business opportunity. Are they professional? Successful? Do you feel comfortable and confident in their business philosophy and ethics? Is it something that you are passionate about? Trust your instinct and go with your first impression - it's usually right!

Wishing you much success in your adventure!

Below are some helpful links on home business:

All businesses (home, store front and online) have risk of failure with no promise of success. Hoping to get rich is not a goal. It does not matter what people claim to make. Their success or failure will not be the same as yours. I recommend you do detailed research and get into a business that you like and for which you have a passion. Remember, a business is not only about the money you make but about giving back to those in need.

I like the travel business. Maybe it is something that you will like or maybe you won't.

Also, a lot of home businesses (not all) have the "option" of network marketing, which scares a lot of people. The following link explains why,

The following link explains how network marketing works:

When you are doing your research and evaluation on a company here are some things (not all) to look for:

1. How long has it been in business?

2. Is there a financial disclosure statement available?

3. Is the company on the stock exchange and regulated by the SEC?

4. Is it a member of the DSA (Direct Selling Association)?

http://www.dsa.org

5. Is information on the founders of the company easily available on the website?

6. Does it sell a service/product that makes sense to you?

7. Does the website provide enough information in articles, video and audio links for you to make a fair and open minded decision?

8. Does the company have a "Bill of Rights" that promises the payment plan will not change without permission?

9. Does website have contact info in which you can talk or email real people?

10. Does it make any ridiculous promises that a homebase business is so easy and that you will get rich in 30 days?

11. Is this something that you would love to do?

12. Does the company let the public visit its main offices and meet the leaders to "kick the tires" as it were just to make sure it is a real business staffed with real people?

13. Does it offer any types of health and life insurance benefits and plans?

14. Does it offer local meetings around the country?

15. Does the company provide certification training?

16. Is the company expanding outside of the United States?

17. Does the company provide access to conference calls where the latest information is available?

18. Does it post what is costs, somewhere on the first page instead of hiding it?

19. Is every company perfect and without fault?

20. Is the compensation plan copyrighted and protected?

21. Has the company been featured in trade magazines?

22. Has it been ranked as a top company in its field, at least among the top 50?

23. Does the company offer you a chance to become part of it for free as an option?

24. Is it a member of the Better Business Bureau?

http://www.bbb.org

25. Who are some well known people who part of the company? A well known person who is a part of your organization is far better than someone who merely gets paid to endorse it.

26. Does the company have a non-profit program to help communities and charities in need.

I am part of a wonderful business. Scent-Sations Mia Bella Candles is about 8 years old but has more than doubled each year. To start the cost is 39.95 plus s&H. You receive each month a Gourmet Jar Candle, 12 Votives (which most use for samples/gifts), our Gourmet Bar Soap and your own website, almost instantly, customers can shop at and receive loads of information on our company and products. We are really a family oriented company. You do not have to do candle parties, you can retail, do fundraisers, do expos. There is no monthly sales quota's. They business is what you make it and want it to be. View the my website http://www.topscentedcandles.com. Research and contact me with any questions. With any business, check them out with the BBB, and any other ways. Good Luck.

I work for a company that just started a work from home division. It’s going pretty well. It’s totally free to start and if someone were so inclined they could turn it into their own business. If nothing else it’s a good way to make $500-$1000 a month for very little work.
