As a Canadian, is it legal for me to be employed online by Americans?

I've been offered a job as an online tutor. However, I'm Canadian, and the people running the tutorial service are Americans. What laws are there regarding this type of Canadian-American employment, since the job is online, not actually *in* the US, and I wouldn't be moving across the border for it?

You have a pretty unique case. I suggest you contact the Canadian IRS and ask.

Yes it is legal. You will provide the service from Canada. The online company should have an establishment in Canada from where they pay you. If they do not and pay you from the USA then you could be liable for employee costs such as EI and CPP as a sole proprietor.

There wouldn't be any legality issues. America outsources all the time with people being employed by american companies but live in other countries. but if you want to be entirely sure you should talk with your employer
