Gather you courage and grace together and go directly to and through the business opening day's activities. You'll (most likely) not die and when it's over you will be impressed with yourself and so will others. And if nerves cause you to slip up some how (Names escape you or the like) just smile and say "Excuse me, I'm so excited about this opening my brain is a bit overloaded!" and move along. One can't always be unafraid, but we are all capable of being brave.

Do your best and even if you do fail at least you know you will have tried and did your best. I'm sure everybody is nervous in the beginning. Advertise lots and be sure of yourself and proud of what you do. Don't be afraid to bring it up in conversations you never know who your next client could be. Always be professional in everything you do it sets a good example for your business. There are lots of support groups through Yahoo that you can join and get idea's from. Being confident and trying it is the only way you will feel better about it.

Best of luck to you!

The most important thing is having enough money to carry you through start up and slow times. If you are well capitalized you will not panic and sell things or services at a loss. Most businesses fail due to undercapitalization.

So if you have the money in the bank, relax, provide great customer service and you will do great. If you don't have the $$$$, then hold off until you do.

Research, plan, research, plan. There is a ton of free support for new businesses. Bank of America had a new business model planning guide that was fantastic. It helps you go through all the steps of starting a new business from market plans, to financing to location to product! You might be able to get your hands on their booklets at any branch or whichever bank is going to be doing your financing.

The AARP and other groups have mentoring programs where retired successful business owners will give you insight and advice on the steps they went through in starting and running their businesses. Nothing like getting help from people who have been there! Their services are free as a general rule.

How is your product or service unique? Is your pricing competitive with other business who provide similar services? How will you market and advertise your business? 9 out of 10 businesses fail within the first 3 years for no other reason than they failed to advertise! That should be an expenditure as critical as rent and payroll!

Have you called/ visited/ researched your competitors within your marketing area? How will you differentiate your business from theirs? What strategies have you designed that will encourage your clients to do business with you more often, refer their friends and family to your business, increase the amount they spend each visit by offering products or services that are different from your primary lines but complement it?

Most businesses do not break even in the first 12-18 months. Do you have enough capitalization to make it through that period?

I think that personal passion and committment are the main ingredient for success. Loving what you do and being willing to do whatever it takes is a primary ingredient in success and it sounds like you have that. Surround yourself with like minded people and you cannot help but succeed!

Congratulations and best of luck to you!
