There is plenty of software tools for small companies, but after number of hours I've spent searching for the right ones - I've got to the conclusion there is nothing which really suits my expectations.

Little background: I have little software shop (20+ developers) providing services for clients from various countries. My developers are mainly contractors - working remotely, from different time zones and countries.

Things I would expect from ideal software tool(s):

1. Interview (not recruitment) support - I have list of standard questions, would be great to have a tool which would let me to score how candidate answered each question and then browse through the results. I don't need recruitment software which posts job offers across internet.

2. Invoicing tool - with superb customization of invoice templates. I need to support multiple currencies, VAT, additional comments and infos on the invoice. Surprisingly with huge number of existing accounting/invoicing software I didn't find one flexible enough for cross-country businesses.

3. Time tracking/reporting tool for existing developers - ideally with invoice generator.

4. Tool for internal communication with contractors - chat, documents storage, discussions. Ideally - integrating with code repositories, testing/continuous integration software, etc. Google+ for Business or Basecamp are close to what I need here.

In ideal world would be good, if all tools could use same storage - as example integrate with Google Apps for Business and save files in Google Drive.

That's a long question - I know. Hope to hear what you recommend and what tools are you using in your companies.

I think you can find some of those software you are looking for here - http://blog.timedoctor.com/2011/02/02/43-project-management-software-alternatives

That's quite a lot of software in there, basically for project management/time tracking/invoicing etc.

For invoicing, I recommend using Invoicera. However, its time tracking features needs a bit of updates. So, the perfect one I could suggest is Time Doctor.

Currently the ebst invoicing tools is called Invoiceberry. As you mentioned, you are looking for multiple currencies, VAT, additional comments and infos on the invoice. All of this you can do with Invoiceberry. YOu can also fully customize invoice template.

Invoiceberry's Forever Free plan gives you an opportunity to get to know the software without any time restrictions.

In this case you should go with one stop solution basically. I mean to say that a all official management can be done up in one platform. Basically the tool that I am using can be the best choice for you. Check out with replicon.com . The time tracking, task management, expense reporting and many more are done up in a precise manner.

Try on free tools. If this tool matched your requirements, then go for premium. This would give you a better pay-off. Refer the following blog to know how to select the project management tools and templates.
