I am trying to start my own small business. keep in mind part of my business name is the word creations. well I was working on making up business cards for my business. well my friend was preaching to me about using vista print to make them and I said no I want to do my own. well today friend was here with me and I made up brochures ones for my business and one for my charity that I started, and I also made up cute logo cards and lil post card sized cards to hang up advertising my stuff. well again my friend said that I needed to use vista print and I said I wanted to make my own stuff and she that I needed to use vista print so that my stuff was professional. well part of my name is creations and my slogan is a selection of homemade uniqueness. I feel that if I do not make my own business cards and brochures and stuff that I am not living up to my slogan. if I handed you a packet with homemade brochures with business cards in them, homemade logo, and homemade posters would you think it is professional. I mean the brochures will have my logo on the front and a pic of my products and inside is divided by product and then gives details about company and then business card. I do not see anything wrong with making my own stuff to go along with my slogan. idk why my friend is telling me that I have to do vista print or else my stuff is not professional. so would you be offended if you got homemade stuff telling about my business?

I don't know what a homemade logo is. But I really don't think anyone cares about who made your business cards.

It's about style. If you create a something that looks slick and professional, it'll get thrown in with all the other slick promotional garbage. Because we've all seen so much of this stuff that no one cares about it any more.

You need something unique and original, because that's what gets noticed.

I wouldn't be offended. It shows how quality means more to you than quantity. See how that works for you and if it doesn't then go a different route. If it is your business you decide. If it were your friends business she can do what she wants. I know she is just trying to help but try out your own way first. Look up homemade business cards onlinr and see how many people do it.

Offended. No, but I would also probably toss the card into the trash can. There are times when homemade/hand drawn stuff is good - on a business card, that is not the time. It announces that you can't be bothered to spend money on promotion. There is no reason you cannot design your own business card and then take it somewhere to have your design imprinted or embossed on good qualify stock.

No I wouldn't be offended. My dad made homemade cards about his business. People would just look at it then put it away, days later they would call him and he would get the job done.

It depends on how they look. Making yourself is one thing, but if they look shitty, it doesn't help your business at all.

I use Staples to do all of my marketing stuff. It's inexpensive, I can design all of the items, they just produce them.

So to answer your question, offended, no. But I would probably think you are more a hobbyist, than a professional business person.

there is no law that says you have to have professionally printed cards, you can certainly make your own, the acceptance of them as a valid business entity will depend on how the people who get them look at them, considering their appearance etc, if they look homemade you will not likely make much of an impression on the prospect

I wouldn't be offended, but I also wouldn't take you seriously. Handmade business cards and brochures just scream "lack of effort," "I don't know how to run a business." I would toss them right away.

not offended

but not impressed if it looked hooky

I ran a print show in the 1970s and will tell you too fancy is crap

simple plain to the point black and white but professional

AND business cards are nothing to expect to build a business on it is just your name and phone number for convenience that will end up in the trash or a box on their desk

KISS in business keep it simple silly

I would not be offended but I would question your business sense. Any serious business would have serious business cards, not amateur cards.
