First and the most important, you have to be a member of eBay community (to www.ebay.com and do it, it’s free)

Second you need to have account with Pay Pal to be able to buy and sell staff or receive payments for your item. This is the easy way to do it. (Go to www.paypal.com and open new account it it’s also free).

Now before you start selling I recommend to you to buy some things first WHAY?

Each member of eBay has his (hers) unique name (nick name), business name associate with number and colorful star. Name is just the name, number is how many feedback that person received (the highest the better) and star and color is visualization of the number of feedbacks.

If you want to be a seller you need to be trusted person with some feedbacks I would say at least 10, so the buyer will see that you are a responsible person. If you don’t have any feedbacks buyer will not do business (transaction) with you (as a seller). You see in order for them to buy something from you they will have to send you money up front, and if you have “0” feedback they simply don’t trust you.

You need to gain some trust, so go on eBay and buy something you need and will have to buy anyway at the retail store. (You can always try to sell it later).

Now you have couple feedbacks you are ready to sell.

First take a good look at your house, garage, attic (can be your family too if they let you take some staff and sell) find some thinks you don’t need (remember somebody’s trash can be treasure for others) and you are willing to get rid of it.

Like I sat before it can be anything (but it should be clean and in ok condition, otherwise you can sell it as is, broken item or for parts people are looking for anything).

You have something to sell now is time to go on eBay and do research.

find item like yours or very similar

use advanced search for closed listings even for misspelling words

study title key words THEY ARE VERY IMPORTANT

pay attention for details, study whole listing very carefully specially for this which closed with highest selling bid

check the price

determinate lowest price you are willing to sell,

check the shipping & handling costs

Prepare your listing

 You have your item,

 Compose title (use max. number of words you can, avoid symbols like @@ or something that not describe your item) use key word which are the most corresponding to your item.

 Compose description as accurate as possible keep it simple.

 Take a picture

 Picture is very important ingredient to your listing. Good picture is worth 1,000 words. You should have digital camera 5 Mega pix. is enough. If you don’t know how to take good picture ask your kids relatives they will know.

Tips:

 stay focus on your item (keep it in the center of the picture, less empty space around it the better)

 use some contrast color for background (if you item is light color try darker for background or if your item is dark try lighter color for background)

 try to use natural light it is not going to change color of your item (watch for shadow)

 if you have to use flash avoid shiny surfaces or try different angles

 always take coupe pictures than pick the best (first picture is free on you listings) in most cases you will need only one)

 If your hands are shaky use tripod if don’t have one (you can always buy cheep one on eBay) use something to support your hand it can be anything (backrest of your chair, table – put your item on the floor ….)

But don’t worry it is not the end of the world. It should be some fun too.

Now you have everything what you need to list your item.

 go to eBay log in

 click sell button follow the steps

 write title

 upload your picture

 write description

 pick type of auction you want ( I recommend regular with low start price .99 c)

 pick duration 7 days work jus fine (pick 10 days if you have more expensive item and you want longer time for exposure)

 Pick the day you want to start your auction if you pick 7 day auction it will be also day when auction will end.

 Pick your shipping price and handling time (how soon you are able to ship your item after auction end’s

 Pick your return policy (it is obligation right now)

 Pick payment method (paypal)

 Than very important before you list your item preview it and double check everything.

 Than list you item, and wait for bidders to buy your item. Good luck.

take a picture of the item, register and it will walk you through the process really simple once you have registered and upload picture after the description of item you can put 3 - 6 day or longer if you want and starting bid sometimes they give you free days to sell but its not that much and they take it out your bank I think about a month later. I have sold loads on ebay and remember the customer pays shipping and as long as you know the weight of the item and destination your shipping cost is easy to work out either through ups or regular mail online. you can even print the the postage once you receive the money from the customer I dont accept checks I only take paypal its the safest way. good luck

I use iSale templates, it's an excellent program for Mac.

For free since your starting off, you should sign up with http://auctiva.com it's free, and a great service

Here's a few of my closed listings, you can get an example of what to do. You of course don't need to be as in depth as me, I have been selling for over two years:

I don't know about ebay, but if you are planning on selling anything handmade or vintage you should check out www.etsy.com. Just like ebay but for handmade and you can set up your own shop + website name for free. I sell on there, and I love it!
